Meet the Michigan Co-Chairmen...

Posted: 12/02/2007

A career guardsman with the Michigan National Guard, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Matt Zelenak was activated with his unit in January 2004. In over 6,000 hours of flight time, his unit carried more than 45,000 people and 14 million pounds of cargo with no injuries. “[By] replenish[ing] the Forward Operating Bases and maximiz[ing] the combat time of the ‘true warriors’ by keeping them out of danger, our efforts were definitely appreciated," says Chief Zelenak

A long-time firefighter in Clinton Township, Captain Pete Bailey of the Michigan Army National Guard deployed to Iraq in May 2004. Bailey’s unit flew more hours and accomplished more than any other Chinook unit, which made him especially proud. Bailey says that “most of the Iraqi people appreciate” that “we’re doing a good thing there. We just need to finish it.”
