Amanda Jordan
Brazoria, Texas

Amanda Jordan’s husband, Gunnery Sergeant Phillip A. Jordan, 42, was a 15-year veteran of the Marines. He had fought in Desert Storm and was determined to finally bring the war to an end with Operation Iraqi Freedom. “He gave his life for our freedom and to protect us from harm . . . that’s why he went over there,” says Amanda. “He really wanted to make sure to take care of the situation this time so his own son would not have to go later to finish the job.” Phillip was killed in Nasiriyah, Iraq on March 23, 2003 when his unit was rerouted while soldiers were trying to rescue Jessica Lynch.

  • His buddies called him “Gump.” Staff Sgt. Phillip Jordan was so nice to so many people that his pals couldn’t resist comparing him to the movie character, Forrest Gump. He was the kind of guy who really did help little old ladies across the street. “He was the nicest guy you could hope to meet. The nicest,” said his wife, Amanda Jordan, from her home in Enfield, Conn., near Hartford. “His entire life was his family and the Marines.”
