- Since losing his son in the Iraq war in 2003, a Florida man has embarked on an ambitious project to place monuments in the hometowns of every soldier who has died in the conflict. Gregg Garvey, of Keystone Heights, Fla., felt it wasn't enough just to honor his own son Sgt. Justin W. Garvey, 23. He wanted to pay tribute to all 1,584 soldiers killed to date in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"This is our finest generation. They have so many alternatives yet they choose to serve,' said Garvey, 50. "They are all my kids now and they deserve nothing less from me." Whittier (Cal.) Daily News, 2/8/05
