William D. "Danny" and Sandy Jordan
Elba, Alabama
Sgt. Jason D. Jordan, 24, left, was Alabama's tenth casualty in Iraq. He died July 20, 2003 after enemy forces ambushed his infantry patrol with a rocket-propelled grenade attack in a village in Tallifar. As the fire direction control officer for his unit’s mortar company, “he volunteered for the mission the night he was killed,” says his father, William “Danny” Jordan. Just as he volunteered for the mission that fateful night, he volunteered to re-enlist, although he knew it meant another tour in Iraq. “He was doing what he wanted to do [and] we stood behind him.” |
