Dave Seamans
Jacksonville, Florida

Dave Seamans, father of PFC Timothy James Seamans, 20, left, said, “A soldier who knew my son while he was in Iraq told me that he once saw Tim pull bread and peanut butter from his military rations, and feed it to the Iraqi children. That’s who my son was.” Nominated for Soldier of the Month after only six months in Iraq, Tim’s military career was cut short on August 18, 2005 when an IED explosion killed him and three other soldiers riding in the same vehicle.

Dave said, “Tim volunteered, literally volunteered to go on missions--every mission. There were many young men who didn’t want to go because of the danger involved, so Tim volunteered every time to take their place, despite the high risk.” For his courage and commitment to the cause, Tim received a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and five other medals. His father concludes, “Tim loved what he did. He loved being home with his family, but he would say to me, ‘Dad, the Army is my family, those are my brothers—I can’t wait to get back to them.’ He missed his band of brothers when he wasn’t with them.”

  • People say his son is a hero. David Seamans agrees. But he says every one of the men and women in the war are heroes -- those who come back alive and those who don't. "They all rose their right hand freely to defend and serve our country," he said. "You can't ask for any more than that." On the Seamans family's driveway, Ashley put a black marker to white posterboard for banners to place along the fence.

My brother was a brave soldier.

He served his country with honor.

    I love him very much.

    I know he's in a better place” Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville) August 20, 2005.
