Families United Statement Regarding Time of Remembrance Date go
July 22, 2009

Washington, DC –Families United For Our Troops and Their Mission, the nation’s largest military family organization, released the following statement concerning the Time of Remembrance date change.

“Families United is honored to have been involved in the National Weekend of Remembrance for the past two years. The event date, which currently falls on Rosh Hashanah, was set by the White House Commission on Remembrance and was in place long before Families United ever became involved with the Time of Remembrance Ceremony. In spite of that, we are making every effort to accommodate every Gold Star family, from every faith, by working with the White House Commission on Remembrance to re-schedule this special tribute weekend. In the coming days we will be releasing additional information about the new date selected and location.  Families United is also working with airlines and travel partners to ensure that families are not forced to pay penalties for this oversight.

In addition, we thank Congressman Ron Klein (D-FL) and his colleagues from the U.S. House of Representatives for their assistance in making sure this event would be able to be rescheduled to allow everyone to attend, regardless of their religious affiliation.”
