Families United Statement on D-Day

Washington, DC – Merrilee Carlson, President of Families United For Our Troops and Their Mission, the nation’s largest military family organization, released the following statement concerning tomorrow’s 65th anniversary of D-Day.

“Tomorrow’s anniversary marks 65 years since our brave troops marched across Normandy and began the demise of Hitler’s regime. On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy and by day’s end 9,387 lives were taken in the name of freedom. These men and women who fought in Normandy represented the best America and her allies had to offer and they served their country with pride, with honor, and with courage.

On D-Day we honor our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Allied Invasion of Normandy. Those troops have the eternal gratitude of a grateful nation. Today, Families United for Our Troops and Their Mission joins all Americans in expressing our profound appreciation to the servicemembers who fought on that June day.”
