Families United Introduces Military Kids Blog
JULY 1, 2009
Washington, DC – Today Families United For Our Troops and Their Mission, a national military family organization, unveiled their new blog specifically for military children. The blog (http://www.militarykidsblog.com) provides a place for military kids young and old to discuss their experiences.
“The life of a military child is full of joys and challenges. It is a life that only other military children understand,” said Families United’s Executive Director Brian Wise. “Families United’s military kids blog will provide a forum for military children to talk to the only people who understand what it’s like to move all your life, have a parent deploy, a parent die, weighing the options of joining the military, and how military life shaped who they are. It is a way for kids from all branches of the service, with parents who are enlisted and commissioned, to come together and realize they’re not that different and they’re not alone.”
The blog was created by Katie Glenn, a Military Family Fellow at Families United, whose father is currently serving in Iraq. “My father has proudly served this country and my family. As a military child, my life hasn’t always been easy but I am who I am because of the military,” said Glenn. “The readers and contributors to this blog have grown up in different parts of the world with parents representing different departments of the military. Through this blog we will come to see that although we are different, we share so much in common.”
Families United’s Military Kids Blog is an open site to all military children, specifically aimed at the children of our current servicemembers. Publishing opportunities, however, are available to any member of a military family. In addition to serving as a support site for military kids, the blog will also publish pertinent information about educational opportunities, scholarships, and important programs offered to children of servicemembers.
